Do you suffer from sleep apnea or do you have a family member or friend who suffers from it?

If so, you are encouraged to attend this support group meeting on Monday, July 5 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Parrish Healthcare Center at Port St. John, 5005 Port St. John Parkway, (I-95 east of the Port St. John exit). The meeting will be held in the Conference Center south entrance (near the sleep lab). This is a free community service. Please call 321-268-6408 to register. Also at the July A.W.A.K.E. Support Group meeting the importance of humidification and CPAP maintenance will be discussed.

According to studies, up to 40 percent of CPAP users experience nasal congestion and dryness of the nose and throat. These symptoms may make the therapy experience extremely uncomfortable or, even worse, prevent patients from continuing treatment. Fortunately, the solution can be as simple and straightforward as adding a humidifier to your system or making sure yours is adjusted correctly. A humidifier adds moisture to the air delivered by a CPAP/BIPAP device, thereby reducing symptoms of dryness and congestion and improving patient comfort and compliance. At every A.W.A.K.E. Support Group meeting you will have the opportunity to see newer model CPAP machines and masks and receive a free mask fitting if you’d like.

A.W.A.K.E. Sleep Apnea Support Group meetings are held the first Monday each month.

Parrish Sleep Disorders Center of Port St. John is a four-bed sleep center where studies are done seven days/nights a week. Diagnostic testing is done for sleep apnea, narcolepsy, REM behavior disorder, a maintenance of wakefulness test, nocturnal seizures, and shift-work sleep studies during the day. Continuous follow-up care for Sleep Apnea is also done for patients with CPAP machines.
