St. Mary Medical Center opened a sleep disorders center in Bensalem, Pa.

The four-bed facility on Knights Road will diagnosis and treat more than 80 identifiable sleep and wake disorders.

“A large number of our population suffers needlessly because of disorders that deprive them of restful sleep,” said Dr. Howard Lee, the center’s medical director. “Through proper diagnosis and treatment, we can alleviate their symptoms and help them to lead more productive, healthy lives.”

The Bensalem site, expected to draw patients from Lower Bucks County and Northeast Philadelphia, extends the reach of the sleep disorder program St. Mary Medical Center started at its main campus in Langhorne, Pa., in 1994.

St. Mary officials noted three out of five adults will experience difficulty sleeping at some time during their lives. The most common reasons include sleep apnea, restless leg syndrome, narcolepsy and insomnia.
