SleepApneaDisorder/[ Press Release ]/ Minneapolis, USA/  – SLEEP 2011 will bring current research and clinical practices to the forefront for sleep specialists from around the world this week at the Associated Professional Sleep Societies, LLC annual meeting. And Royal Philips Electronics (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHI) will demonstrate the latest advances in sleep with the premiere of “Pathway to Compliance.” The interactive showcase features the latest breakthroughs for diagnosing, treating and managing the entire spectrum of sleep-disordered breathing patients and guides them on their journey to better sleep. “Tremendous strides have been made to deepen our understanding of sleep,” says John Frank, Sr. Vice President, General Manager, Sleep and Respiratory Care, Philips Home Healthcare Solutions. “There is growing evidence of co-morbidities such as diabetes, obesity, and cardiovascular disease. As allies in better sleep and breathing, we are committed to meeting these challenges with intelligent solutions. With “Pathway to Compliance,” we will show how new advances are making the future of sleep and therapy compliance a reality for patients and clinicians.”

Attendees will walk through the patient care model and progress from diagnosis to therapy in lab, physician, homecare provider and patient home settings. Technologies that connect the care team to vital patient information will be demonstrated using Philips Respironics integrated solutions. The educational program includes hands-on demonstrations with patients, physicians, respiratory therapists, and product experts. Separately, David P. White, M.D., Chief Medical Officer, Philips Home Healthcare Solutions, will present clinical research and discuss therapy compliance.

In diagnostics, Philips Respironics will introduce a new member of the Alice diagnostic family: the Alice 6 sleep diagnostic system. The offering includes a choice of three head boxes ranging from the Alice LDE for routine sleep studies to the full-featured LDx base station with either the LDxS or LDxN head box. The LDxS head box provides 19 EEG inputs while the LDxN headbox offers a full 32 EEG. The Alice 6 enables sleep lab managers to meet today’s clinical and business challenges. The systems combine flexibility with ease-of-use features, such as automatic Chin EMG referencing and integrated RIP drivers, to enhance the technician’s ability to focus on the patient.

The companion to the Alice 6 technology, the Sleepware G3 software, helps lab managers better meet workflow needs and offers staff members a richer, more productive experience. Sleepware G3 features an exclusive composite channel type useful when titrating complex sleep apnea patients with the BiPAP autoSV Advanced. The new channel integrates the various parameters available from the BiPAP autoSV so a clinician can see the relationships of the various parameters on a breath-to-breath basis. Additionally this composite channel allows the clinician to eliminate the redundant channels from view which provides them with better screen visibility to all of the data.

Sleepware G3 and the Somnolyzer 24X7, which provides a validated, computer-assisted service solution, combine to help provide labs with robust and enhanced workflow efficiencies. This functionality allows the scoring technologist performing the expert review to benefit fully from the enhancements in Somnolyzer 24×7 and the power and flexibility of the new Sleepware G3 platform.

Philips Respironics will also feature breakthrough innovations in patient interface technology, including its first sleep therapy mask built specifically for men and women, and a much anticipated gel nasal mask. The masks are designed to enhance the comfort, ease of fit, and performance that are critical to patient adherence to therapy.

GoLife for Men is Philips Respironics’ first nasal pillows masks designed to fit the larger contours of the male facial structure. The newly released GoLife for Women features a smaller frame and headgear to more closely fit female facial dimensions. Both are offered in new attractive colors. GoLife’s soft facial contour arms gently hug the patient’s face to maintain a secure seal and stability even when moving during sleep.

Philips Respironics brings its best technologies together with the premier of the TrueBlue gel nasal mask with Auto Seal technology. Thinner and lighter than previous masks, the premium blue gel, together with the thin, form-fitting outer silicone membrane, creates a self-adjusting seal. The mask delivers a high degree of comfort, stability, and freedom of movement with minimal adjustments in a gel nasal mask.

In sleep therapy, Philips Respironics market-leading BiPAP autoSV Advanced System One simplifies treating complex sleep-disordered breathing patients. The servo-ventilator incorporates more device intelligence to help clinicians make the most informed and timely decisions for their patients. Clinically proven algorithms adjust to a patient’s changing therapy needs. The system provides detailed patient-flow waveform data that is able to be used by clinicians to track patient compliance.

The newest entry in the System One sleep therapy platform – REMstar Pro with AutoIQ – is a CPAP system smart enough to track and deliver breath-by-breath therapy for up to 30 days while it learns the patient treatment needs. Based on what it learns, it sets a fixed pressure. AutoIQ checks back every 30 hours to see if the therapy pressure it established is on track. If not, REMstar Pro with AutoIQ automatically adjusts to obtain an ideal pressure. All without the need to send someone from the care team to patients’ homes.

With the release of EncoreAnywhere version 2.0, clinicians can easily customize the web-based patient compliance management system to better match their unique business and clinical workflow needs. This release represents a significant advancement in EncoreAnywhere’s usability and configurability that is designed to improve the clinicians’ ability to proactively manage patient compliance, quickly identify potentially non-compliant patients and provide increased transparency into operational performance.

Launching soon, Philips Respironics “Partners in Compliance Management Program” will offer essential tools via a comprehensive website to help support a customer’s business goals and help their patients achieve compliance. The free website will house a resource center, best practices and protocols, clinical education and training materials, and reimbursement information.
