Barrington Sleep Center Invites Community

The Sleep Disorders Center at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital, Barrington invites community to tour the facility from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday.

The Sleep Center is in Medical Office Building I on the campus of Good Shepherd, 450 W. Route 22, Barrington.

Attendees are asked to call 1-800-323-8622 to register for a specific arrival time and reference event 3G16. All those registered are entered into a raffle.

Individuals suffering from conditions such as sleep apnea and periodic limb movement during sleep can be referred to the Sleep Disorders Center for sleep study testing by their primary physician.

Individuals suffering from narcolepsy, insomnia, sleepwalking, sleep tremors, nocturnal leg cramps, or night terrors should be seen in consult with a sleep specialist.

Sleeping Pills Should Not Be Taken Lightly

When sleep doesn’t come easily, some people turn to what they think is an easy solution – sleeping pills. But according to a Baylor College of Medicine sleep expert, sleep medications – whether prescription or over-the-counter – shouldn’t be taken lightly.

“All medications have side effects that need to be weighed whenever you take them,” cautioned Dr. Phil Alapat, assistant professor of pulmonary, critical care and sleep medicine at BCM and medical director of the BCM Sleep Center.

Some of the most common prescription sleep medications are non-benzodiazepine hypnotics, like Ambien and Lunesta. These medications are not physically addictive and will not cause withdrawal symptoms when a person stops taking them. However, many people depend on them because they believe they cannot sleep without them, Alapat said. Read the rest of this entry

The Snoring Center,(SM) the nationally renowned Dallas-based clinic for the treatment of snoring and sleep apnea, has filed a federal lawsuit against a group of San Francisco businessmen accused of using fraudulently obtained proprietary information to establish and falsely market a competing medical practice, the “Sereno Center for Snoring Solutions”.

The lawsuit, filed today in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas, includes claims that, in late 2008 and 2009, defendants Wade Zander, Jason Godfrey and Dr. Matthew Mingrone posed as potential investors and joint venture partner in The Snoring Center’s plans to expand beyond Dallas, Houston and Fort Worth.  Instead, the defendants allegedly obtained and used The Snoring Center’s confidential financial and clinical data and advertising strategies to open the Sereno Center in downtown San Francisco earlier this year. Know If You have a Sleep Disorder

Sleep disorders come in many forms and are often misunderstood and misdiagnosed because the telltale signs — excessive snoring and daytime drowsiness — can result from a multitude of factors, including stress, obesity, work or travel schedule, anxiety, diet, medication or alcohol use or even a bad mattress or poor lighting. 

Any time we change our sleep patterns, like during the switch to or from Daylight Saving Time, our ability to rest properly is affected. But sleep deprivation and sleep disorders are year-round problems that must be properly diagnosed and addressed to preserve the health of the individual”, according to Dr. Arnold Pallay, medical director at Changebridge Medical Associates in Montville. Delnor Hospital Sleep Disorders Center has recieved its program accreditation from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM). The AASM is the largest professional medical society for clinicians, researchers and other health-care providers in the field of sleep medicine and is considered to be the gold standard.

The Brazos Valley sleep clinics are coming up to help patients find ways to help them sleep.

The College Station Sleep Center received national accreditation from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM). The accreditation distinguishes College Station Sleep Center as meeting or exceeding national quality-of-care measures for sleep disorder treatment. San Diego — As health officials continue to monitor the physical and monetary toll sleep disorders exact in the U.S., treating various conditions brought on by sleep problems has transformed snoozing into a sound business for a San Diego-based medical device manufacturer.

And the market of potential customers has yet to be fully realized, said officials at ResMed, a sleep apnea device maker with about 325 local employees.

Kenmore Mercy Hospital unveiled its new SleepCare Center.

It is the third such facility in the Catholic Health System’s hospital network, complementing centers at Mercy Hospital in Buffalo and Sisters of Charity Hospital’s St. Joseph Campus in Cheektowaga.

The sleep center is designed to diagnose and treat a variety of sleep disorders.
